About Us

Window Well Solutions LLC is a local company based out of Fort Collins.  The Owner, Chris Ufer, has been in the area for over 25 years repairing and remodeling thousands of homes.  You may have hired some of his past companies, Ufer Painting, Buford’s Handyman Service, Legacy Custom Builder’s, or Space Solutions LLC.

With every company over the years, the focus has been to provide a top notch level of service to each and every homeowner.  What this means to us is to offer the best solutions for the job while assessing budget, timing, quality and the customers desires.    Each one of these companies have only had 5 star reviews showing that the customers always came first.

Window Well Solutions is not any different.  The need to start ANOTHER company came from the fact that Chris came up with a solution to the rusty window well problem and wanted the business name to describe the more specific projects his business was taking on…rusty window well replacements.

Our Story

When COVID hit the world, Chris’ mother was living with him. Her Chronic Kidney Disease and being on dialysis put her at extreme risk during the pandemic. Chris was remodeling bathrooms at the time, which required him to be in people’s homes. Not wanting to bring the virus home to his mother, he pursued other jobs that would allow him to stay outside of people’s homes. After letting some of his realtor friends know of his situation, he was asked if he could replace 3 rusty window wells that were called out on an inspection report.

When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, Chris faced a personal challenge: protecting his mother, who lived with him and was at high risk due to Chronic Kidney Disease and dialysis. To minimize exposure risks, Chris decided to pivot from his bathroom remodeling work, which required entering clients’ homes. Seeking outdoor opportunities, he reached out to realtor friends and was soon tasked with replacing three rusty window wells flagged in an inspection report.

The job presented unique challenges. With no access for excavation equipment, all the work had to be done manually. Additionally, two of the window wells were located in tight spaces—one near a concrete patio and the other beside an A/C unit—demanding an innovative approach. Determined to find a solution, Chris designed a bracket system that allowed the window wells to be mounted from the inside.

The new mounting system worked flawlessly, making the project a success and leaving everyone involved satisfied with the result. This experience not only showcased Chris’s adaptability but also laid the groundwork for his future innovations in window well replacement.

Chris’s dedication to providing top-notch customer service sparked a curiosity about why window wells in relatively new homes rusted, while those over 50 years old remained rust-free. His investigation revealed that electrolysis and the Ufer ground were responsible. The coincidence of the issue sharing his rare last name added a personal connection, deepening his determination to uncover a solution.

Through consultations with professionals and online research, Chris discovered that the conventional fix—installing larger window wells with non-conductive fasteners—seemed inadequate. It appeared to shift liability rather than address the underlying problem. Reflecting on previous replacements in tight spaces, he envisioned a more practical solution: a mounting system made from non-conductive materials, effectively preventing rust caused by electrical conductivity.

Unable to find evidence of similar solutions, Chris pursued patent protection for his innovative idea. His determination paid off when the patent was granted, leading to the creation of Ufer Wells and Window Well Solutions LLC. Driven by his commitment to excellence, the company now provides the most comprehensive and effective solution for rusty window well replacement. The Ufer Wells mounting system stands apart, offering unmatched protection and reliability.

WHY CHOOSE US

Replacing Rusted Windows Wells Fort Collins CO

WE STOP THE RUST

Our patented Ufer Wells mounting system stops your window well from rusting prematurely.  According to the manufactures of window wells, they rust due to the fastners touching the reinforcing bars in the foundation.  The rebar is steel and the window well is galvanized.  The two disimilar metals create a corrosion cell causing the window well to rust.  The adoption of the Ufer ground has also contributed to the premature rusting.  The Ufer ground is a method of using the foundation as the electrical systems connection to the earth.  Since a window well is connected to the foundation, it becomes the electrical path of least resistance causing electrolysis.

OUR PROCESS IS LESS INVASIVE

Our patented process of replacing a window well is unique in the industry.  Other window well replacement companies must excavate at least 2 feet on either side of the well in order to be able to attach the new well to the foundation.  Our process requires us to excavate only a few inches on each side of the well. Meaning we don’t need to remove the surrounding landscaping, patios, decks, A/C units, fences, sprinkler systems, utilities or anything else that might be in the way.  We hand dig every window well, so you don’t have to worry about your yard being torn up by machinery or fences being taken down to get the machines in your back yard.  We temporarily store the soil in buckets to keep the jobsite tidy.
